Greetings of the day to all present here. The Chief Guest Rev. Fr Dionysius Vaz, SJ Rector St Aloysius Institution, Rev. Fr Wilson L. Vitus D Souza, Manager, dignitaries on the dais, members of the management committee, PTEC, Rev Fathers, Rev Sisters, media persons, dear parents, staff and students.
On behalf of the management, staff and students, I accord a warm and cordial welcome to you all. It gives me immense pleasure and profound joy to stand before you and present the annual report of Lourdes Central School for the year 2019-2020.
Lourdes Central School was established by the visionary Late Rev. Fr Bernard L DSouza in 1999 and withstood the test of time and emerged as the prestigious institution of Dakshina Kannada.
School Profile: The School is in its 21st year with teaching staff strength of 71, non-teaching staff of 31 and student strength of 1956, is striving for excellence by giving importance to both academic and human excellence and moral values. The greatest asset of our school lies in our supportive parents and our committed staff.
The new academic year 2019-2020 began on 1st June 2019. Students were all happy to be back at school with a smile on their fresh faces, after the summer break.
Annual Results: We secured 100% results in Class X CBSE Board Examination held in March 2019. Out of 140 students who appeared for the exam, 82 students passed in distinction, 52 students passed in First class and 6 students passed in Second class.
We also secured 100% results in Class XII CBSE examination held in April 2019. Out of 80 students who appeared for the exam, 45 students secured above 85% and 34 students scored above 60% and 1 student scored above 60%.
On the opening day the KG 1 students were welcomed in a unique way. Every child was carried by the Principal and Manager and handed over to the teachers to begin the journey at LCS.
The Parent–Teacher interactive sessions were held for classes Kindergarten to XII from 6th June to 11th June 2019. Elaborate plan of academic and co-curricular was presented.
Swatcha Meva Jayathe was held on 11th June 2019 during the morning assembly.
The Investiture Ceremony was held on 14th June 2019. The Guest of Honour Rev. Fr Francis Assisi D Almeida Director Sandesha Mangalore addressed the gathering, elucidating on the qualities of a leader and stressing on the fact that there is a leader in everybody. Parvathy Menon was selected as the Head girl and Danish Pinto as the Head boy.
On 15th June 2019, we celebrated the Platinum Birthday of our Manager Rev. Fr Wilson L. Vitus D Souza with much joy and enthusiasm. Club activities for 2019-20 were inaugurated.
The PTA General Body Meeting and honouring Ceremony was held on 22nd June 2019. To mark the inaugural of the programme, Bishop of Mangaluru and the President of CBE Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha planted a sapling to symbolize growth, progress and prosperity of the school. The Bishop released the Souvenir, ‘The Lourdite’ to commemorate the auspicious occasion of the Vicennial year. The class X and XII toppers were honoured.
International Yoga day was celebrated on 21st June 2019. The chief guest of the day Kumari Prajna addressed the gathering. She said that Yoga is that practice which is responsible for the overall development of a person.
The Health Week was inaugurated on 15th July 2019. ENT, Eye, Dental and General Health Checkup were conducted in connection with the health week for all the students from Kindergarten to class XII by renowned doctors of A J and KMC hospital. A health talk by Dr Hema Mallya was organized for the staff.
An Orientation Programme for CBSE School Teachers was organized by the Catholic Board of Education on 29th July 2019. The teachers from our School, Milagres Central School and St Mary’s Central School, Kinnigoli were present. The Secretary of CBE Rev. Fr Antony Shera highlighted on the structure of CBE, English Medium Schools and their challenges and expectations from a teacher.
We hosted the AICS Badminton Tournament – “Badminton Bedazzle – 2019” on 17th August 2019. The Chief Guest was Dr U S Krishna Nayak, Principal, A B Shetty Dental College, Mangalore. Our school emerged as winners in Girls under 17 category.
Konkani Manyata Divas was celebrated on 20th August 2019. Over 64 students learning Konkani in class VI, VII and VIII showcased their talents in their mother tongue.
Solfa Music week was celebrated from 26th August to 31st August with great enthusiasm. The musical week was a platform to the talented students, musicians and singers to bring out their talents.
Hindi, Library, Kannada and Konkani week were also observed. In connection with this various competitions were conducted.
Teachers Day was celebrated in the school on 5th September 2019 with great zeal and joy.
“World Ozone Day” was celebrated on 16th September 2019. Students were enthusiastic and prepared beautiful charts depicting the depletion of the ozone layer.
Open House was held on 3rd October 2019. Almost all parents along with their wards attended the same.
Social Science Exhibition was held on 19th October 2019 for classes VI to VIII in their respective classrooms. The Exhibition showcased various projects and models prepared by the students as a part of their project-based learning methodology.
An Educational Trip to Japan to Japan was organized from 4th to 12th October 2019. 22 students participated in the trip. The places we visited – Tokyo, Hiroshima, Osaka.
The LCS Sports week finale for Kindergarten to Class V was held on 7th November 2019. The chief guest was Major Dr Rajesh S M Paediatrician and Head of the Department of Paediatrician KMC Hospital. He said that sport makes a person physically and mentally strong. Sports help in the growth of children. He congratulated all the winners and he wished all the best for the future of the children.
Annual Sports Meet was held on 8th November 2019 for Classes VI to XII at Mangala Stadium. Mr Pushparaj Hegde P, Assistant Manager, Syndicate Bank, National level weightlifter, Ekalavya awardee was the chief guest. He said “the rules we follow to win the sport should help us to lead a better future. One should never use shortcut methods to win. He highlighted saying, not to compromise with the discipline”.
Children’s Day was celebrated on 14th November 2019. The purpose of the day was to commemorate the birth anniversary of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and his affection towards little children.
‘LCS Regale’ 2019 was celebrated on 15th November 2019 for the students, parents and teachers to showcase their talents. The students performed to their best and entertained everyone. The game stalls were a treat to the children who tried their luck and skills at various novelty games. Hotel Goldfinch exhibited the food stalls.
‘Rastriya Ekta Diwas’ was celebrated on 31st October 2019 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. To mark the occasion, the “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge” was taken. A ‘Run for Unity’ was organised by the Scouts and Guides to celebrate the National Unity Day.
The Commerce students of Class XI and XII had an industrial visit on 16th November 2019 to 3 Man’s Dinki Ice Cream Industry, Baikampady.
Young Talent Search: To build confidence and motivate the skills of our little ones, competitions like Colouring, Fancy Dress, Patriotic Singing, Elocution, Dance, Rangoli, Twin Role, Kannada Ekapatrabhinaya and singing, Handwriting, Hindi poetry Recitation and Writing and Quiz were held from June to November 2019. It was indeed mesmerizing to watch the tiny tots, performing these competitions. The participation of the students in the above competition was excellent and creative.
Career Guidance: A talk was held for the commerce students of class XI & XII on 11th June 2019 by Mr Sreeram, a fluent speaker and a student of Business Management and Economics.
A session was held on 12th July 2019 for the students of class X, XI and XII. Mr Bishwajeet Mahato, a renowned statistician and graduate explained the importance of choosing the right path and knowing what lies ahead. Mr Shailendra Chauhan M-Tech graduate explained the growing scope in the field of medical sciences in recent times.
The students of class XI & XII had a talk on 18th October 2019 by Mr Sai Prasad N, Senior Manager of iNurture Education Solutions (Ltd) and Ms Gayathri K, a mentor for career guidelines, from iNurture Education Solutions, Bangalore.
Projects: During the month of June 2019 Kindergarten students were involved with the project ‘Eat Well to Be Healthy’ to bring awareness about healthy food.
The project ‘Greet and Win All Hearts’ was held on 28th June 2019. The goal of the project was to create social interaction in order to create positive experiences in terms of creating good memories.
Crusaders for a Greener Earth: World Environment Day was celebrated on 6th June 2019. The theme was – ‘Beat Air Pollution.’ We can’t stop breathing, but we can do something about the quality of air that we breathe.
Vanamahotsava was celebrated on 5th July 2019. The project ‘Crusaders of the Earth’ was inaugurated. The Principal and the Vice Principal planted a sapling to mark the beginning of Vanamahotsava week.
The students went for a Plantation Drive on 6th July 2019 to Government ITI. Forest Range Officer Mr Sridhar arranged for the planting of saplings. Students of Eco club, Scouts and Guides, Cabinet leaders accompanied the plantation drive along with the Principal Rev. Fr. Robert D Souza, teachers and non- teaching staff.
“Save green-Save life” project was initiated for Kindergarten section. Fr Principal said that we have to save our mother nature and keep our environment clean and free of plastic. He planted a sapling and set an example for the tiny tots to have an inclination towards growing plants and trees.
“Awareness on Environment” was organised for the students of Class IX. Mr M Dinesh Nayak who is a nature lover and photographer enlightened the students on different types of plants.
Water Conservation was held on 31st October 2019 during the morning assembly, the students presented an informative skit.
Old Shoes Collection Programme as a part of Crusaders for a Greener Environment was conducted. The Cabinet Ministers undertook this programme in association with School Health Annual Report Programme (SHARP). Presently, this programme is focusing on “No Child Should Go Barefoot” and thus has collaborated with BATA. For every old pair of shoe which we donate, BATA will exchange it with a new pair and provide it to the needy children. For this cause, even Lourdes Central School is joining hands to help the underprivileged children of our society.
Zero Plastic Campaign was held in the school by the cabinet members and brought awareness about the ill effects of plastic.
Our school gives a lot of prominence to National Festivals: The 73rd Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at LCS school grounds.
‘Gandhi Jayanthi’ the 150th birth anniversary was celebrated on 2nd October 2019. Remembering yet another great leader Lal Bahadur Shastri the second Prime minister of India was apprised by the audience on his contribution to the nation. The entire school was on a cleanliness drive rendering their service to keep the school and the surroundings clean.
Kannada Rajyostava was celebrated on 1st November 2019. The Kannada department had put up an informative programme.
Cultural and Religious festivals: A twin celebration of Monthi Fest and Onam was held on 7th September 2019. The school lobby was decorated with pookalam and beautiful motifs of the feast of our Lady were adorning the bulletin boards.
Collection Drive for the flood affected people of Dakshina Kannada: The entire Lourdite family contributed their mite towards the relief of the flood affected people of Dakshina Kannada. It is gratifying to acknowledge the sensitivity of the management, parent, staff and student community of our School.
Keeping in mind the festive season Nativity, Onam, Moharam and Dussehra celebrations our school kindergarten section organized a dance competition for the KG2 children.
Diwali, the festival of lights, was celebrated in the school very meaningfully.
During the month of September and October 2019, the students of class IV to XII were taken out on one day recreational trip to different places of scenic beauty.
Several Inter school competitions were also held during the current academic year and we have many students who have brought laurels to our school and for themselves too.
In CBSE South Zone athletics our student Shreya Arbi secured second place in 200 mtrs race and is selected for nationals. Our school teams of Chess, Shuttle badminton girls, boys Football team won the AICS Interschool tournaments held at different places.
Our students Anagha Rajesh and Niranjan Rajeev have won gold medals in Speed Skating Open Challenge held at Gurugram, Delhi conducted by Ice Skating Association of India.
In Chess Shriyana S Mallya, Shradha S Rai, Rudra Rajeev and Niranjan Rajeev have represented the Indian Team in KCS First International below 1,600 Fide Rating Chess Tournament held at Coondapur. Shriyana S Mallya has been awarded – Womens’ Candidate Master in Common Wealth Chess Championship 2019 held at New Delhi.
The Journey of ISA: It has been our immense pleasure to be a part of the ISA programme and to develop an international ethos. We began planning for our ISA activity in the month of August 2018. The Principal Rev. Fr Robert D Souza formed an ISA committee along with the Vice Principal Ms Belita Mascarenhas and appointed two Coordinators – Mr Henry Mascarenhas and Ms Harshitha Shetty. The project was submitted in June 2019 and we are affiliated to British Council. The International School Award ceremony will be held on 6th December 2019 at Delhi.
