The First ‘AICS’ Annual Conference on ‘Rethink The Principalship : Shape The Future’ was conducted by AICS (Association of ICSE& CBSE Schools) of D.K & Upupi Districts in Bhuvana Jyothi Residential School, Shirthady, Mangalore Taluk on 30th & 31st October 2015. Rev Fr Robert D’Souza, Principal, Ms Anitha Thomas and Ms Gretta Menezes represented Lourdes Central School.
Dr TJ Quadros, President AICS welcomed the delegates. Prof Mathew C Ninan, Principal Little Rocks, Brahmavar apprised about the 2 days programme. Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, Rector St Aloysius Institutions and Director SAIMT said in his Keynote address that in order to lead one need not be a born leader. He explained about Personality and Leadership styles. He also quoted the Golden Rule & Platinum Rule of Leadership.

Real Leadership is breaking through the limits of ones own mind, he said.
In the next session, Mr Mathew KG, Principal Excel Public School, Mysore elaborated upon ‘Inspirational leadership for Institutional Transformation’. If you don’t change along with change you become extinct, he said. He felt that the Technology Integration should be the tool in hands of teachers.
Mr Joselyne Lobo, Associate Professor & Dean, School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Mangalore sited an anecdote on situational leadership. He also summarised the Roles of a teacher as Guru, Scholar, Facilitator, Reformer, Leader and Organiser.
Dr Robert Clive G, Associate Professor in Rural Development, Crossland College, Brahmavar apprised about the qualities of leadership. His session was in fact an inspirational one.
Next day Professor Mathew C Ninan appealed the delegates to not only teach the students but to treat the students. Students do not forget their good teachers and also never forgive their bad teachers, he said. He elaborated on Pigmatic effect, X factor and Integrity.
Mr Arindam Roy Choudhury, Principal Kalpavruksha Model School, Bailahongal narrated that there is always a choice about the way we do our work, even if there is no choice about the work itself. As a leader we have to be willing to take the risk to change, he felt. Always one need to introspect oneself, use right attitude were the words of the speaker.
Mr R Prem Kumar, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Gajanoor, Shimoga enlightened how critical the role of a teacher is, in shaping the minds of students.
The conference ended with a valedictory address by Dr Gururaj Karajagi, Chairman and Managing Director, Academy for Creative Teaching, Bangalore.
The conference proved to be a successful one. It helped in guiding the present and prospective leaders in the field of education. It added value to existing knowledge of the participants. The sessions were worthwhile and the knowledge imparted will be handy to shape the future of the young ones.
