The spectacular Sports Day of Secondary and Senior Secondary Section of Lourdes Central School was held on 11th November 2016 at Mangala Stadium. Amongst the dignitaries on the occasion were the Chief Guest Rev. Fr Walter D’Mello, Associate Judicial Vicar, Ecclesiastical Tribunal, Diocese of Mangalore, Guest of Honour Mr. Prakash B Salian, Corporator, Mangaluru City Corporation, accompanied by the President of the day’s function Rev. Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, Manager Lourdes Central School, Principal Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza, the Vice Principal Mrs Belita Mascarenhas, Mr Stany Vas, Vice President, Bejai Pastoral Parishad, Dr Adelaide D’Sa, member of Management Committee and PTEC Vice President Mrs Aarati Shetty escorted by the Convenor Mr Vishwanath Devadiga. The inaugural programme began at 8.30 a.m. with the School Choir singing the prayer song for God’s intervention and blessings. This was followed by the School Parade headed by the head boy Aman Mertia, house captains and vice captains with their respective houses marching to the beat of the band which was indeed a spectacular, impressive and synchronised March Past by the Opal, Coral, Jade and Amber Houses. The School flag was ceremonially carried by the worthy sportsmen of the School – Mohammed Ameen, Glen, Naved and Karan Mathias for the flag raising ceremony. The Chief Guest Rev. Fr Walter D’Mello hoisted the flag.
The Vice Principal Mrs Belita Mascarenhas delivered the welcome address.
The Sports Torch was borne by the worthy sports persons of our School – Niranjan and Ishitha. The Guest of Honour Mr Prakash B Salian received the torch and declared the sports meet open. To rejuvenate the spirit of true sportsmanship, the Sports Minister Zaid led the oath and recited the pledge.
The Chief Guest Rev. Fr Walter D’Mello addressed the gathering and told the students that it was their day and he was happy to be a part of the Annual Sports Day. He stressed on a healthy mind in a healthy body. This makes a healthy person smiling, focussed, optimistic and dynamic. Such a person will not have handicaps and can move mountains. Participation is important which brings confidence and fulfilment. He urged the students to learn values and have devotion, dedication and desire to learn more and more; and blessed that God be their strength.
The students gave an impressive spectacle of harmony and discipline through the Mass Drill. The School Band in symphony complemented the drill. House system song was sung with vigour and gusto.
Rev. Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza in his Presidential address said that it was a day to feast, a day of celebration of talents. Healthy competition is necessary and having a feeling of winning competitions exhibits one’s talent and skills. He asked the students to improve on their past and try to reach the mark of excellence. He wished all the students their desire, specially the spirit of winning.
Mr Veerendra Alva expressed his gratifying thoughts and thanked everyone.
The Valedictory Ceremony commenced at 4.00 p.m. Ms Vivita D’Souza welcomed the gathering.

The Principal Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza awarded the shield to the winning house team – Amber House and the Runners Up Team to Opal House.
The Principal Rev Fr Robert D’Souza thanked Rev. Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza for presiding over the function. He thanked the teachers for their hard work. He also thanked the students for their love and dedication for sports and games.
Mr Vishwanath Devadiga proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms Deepa D’Souza, Ms Vanitha Patole and Ms Vivita D’Souza. Mr Vishwanath Devadiga and Mr Veerendra Alva were the Convenors of the Annual Sports Day.
The lowering of the School Flag which marks the end of the closing ceremony was done ceremoniously in the presence of the Manager, Principal, the Vice Principal and the PTEC Vice President. The programme ended with the singing of the National Anthem.
