CBP-Promoting Mental Health and Emotional Well-being among Students

A Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on “Promoting Mental Health and Emotional Well-being among Students” was conducted at Lourdes Central School on 27 May 2026 in the LCS Conference Hall. The programme aimed at helping teachers understand challenges faced by students and the importance of nurturing students’ emotional wellness.
The programme commenced with a prayer song followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Ms Harshitha Shetty, the Programme Co-ordinator, welcomed the gathering and introduced the resource persons – Dr Shwetha Kamath, Freelance School Counsellor, Remedial Coach for Specific Learning Disabilities; and Ms Deepa K. Shetty, an educator with 18 years of service at NITK English Medium School, Surathkal.
In the keynote address, Rev. Fr Johnson L. Sequeira, the Principal, highlighted the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds and remarked, “Children may forget what we teach, but they never forget what they feel.”
The sessions focused on understanding child mental health, emotional challenges faced by the students and the importance of creating supportive classroom environments. Through videos and interactive discussions, the participants explored practical strategies to help students cope with stress and emotions effectively.
The programme proved to be highly enriching and sensitised teachers to the need for compassionate, value-based education that supports the holistic development and emotional resilience of students. Feedback on the sessions was shared by Ms Priya and Ms Padmashree. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms Shamitha.
