Capacity Building Programme – Educating Parents about Education

The Capacity Building Programme by CoE Bangalore Region on the topic “Educating Parents about Education” was conducted on 28th May 2026 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The programme began with a prayer service followed by the welcome address and introduction of the resource persons by Ms Lavina Serrao.
The Principal Rev. Fr Johnson L Sequeira addressed the teachers on the importance of educating parents and creating awareness about the changing educational system. The formal inauguration was marked by the lighting of the lamp.
The sessions were conducted by the resource persons Mr. Bhujana P. Shetty, Sri Laxmi Janardhan International School, Udupi and Mrs. Deepa Elizabeth Karkada, St Aloysius Gonzaga School, Mangalore. Various important topics related to modern education were discussed during the programme. The first session focused on the Paradigm Shift in Education. The speakers also explained the changes in the Indian Education System with special reference to NEP 2020 and NCF 2023.
Another significant topic discussed was the Seventeen Gratitude Goals. The resource persons also highlighted the importance of Assessment Reforms. They explained why student assessment is important and provided information about PARAKH, HPC, SAFAL and PISA. The concept of Competency-Based Assessment was also elaborated. Guidance was given regarding the appropriate grade level at which career guidance can be introduced to students.
Teachers Ms. Bindu and Ms. Deepika shared their experiences and reflections on the seminar programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Rekha Naveen.
The seminar was informative, enriching and beneficial for all the teachers as it provided valuable insights into the evolving educational practices and the role of parents in education.
