A career guidance programme plays a crucial role in a student’s academic journey and future professional life. It provides structured support and direction, helping students make informed and thoughtful career choices, keeping this thought in mind, a Career Guidance session was held for the students of grade XII.
The session began with an introductory address by Raqiya of Class 12A. Ms. Sharmila Colaco welcomed Ms. Deepa D’Souza, the Academic Coordinator, and gave a brief introduction of the resource persons.
Mr. Pranav Kumar shared his experiences from when he was in Class 12, discussing the career options available to him at the time. He explained how the COVID-19 pandemic and advice from a senior led him to appear for the CLAT examination, which he passed with flying colours. He spoke about various law entrance examinations and the top institutes in India to pursue law. Mr. Pranav highlighted career prospects in the field, including corporate law, litigation, in-house counsel, judiciary, academia, and legal startups. He emphasized that it’s never too late to discover your potential or choose a career path—mentioning that he started preparing for CLAT without any coaching after completing his Class 12 board exams.
Mr. Thushar Shivam spoke about his passion for filmmaking and described the various courses and skills offered in professional design colleges. He noted that the first year typically focuses on fundamental design principles, with specialization choices made later. He discussed career opportunities in direction, cinematography, screenplay writing, and scriptwriting. He also introduced two major design courses: Industrial Design and Visual Communication, which includes graphic design and animation.
Mr. Chris Edzen Moras provided insights into the field of architecture. He discussed the entrance exams and institutions for pursuing architecture. He outlined diverse career prospects, including working in architectural firms, urban design, government and public sector undertakings (PSUs), and entrepreneurship. He also explained that design institutes train students in multiple disciplines, opening up various career paths.
Question and Answer Session
During the Q&A session, students raised various questions regarding career choices. One question pertained to the impact of AI on different professions. The speakers collectively responded that AI may change how we work, but it is unlikely to completely replace jobs.
Another question focused on careers in diplomacy and foreign service. Mr. Pranav Kumar addressed this by mentioning options such as joining the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) through the UPSC examination or working with international organizations like the World Trade Organization or the United Nations as a representative of the country.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ojas Samaga of Class 12B.
