Counselling session for class VIII

“Motivation gets you going, but discipline keeps you growing.”

A counselling session was organised for the students of class VIII. Session began by invoking God’s blessings through a prayer song. The session started with a welcome speech given by Saanvi Bhandary of class VIII.  She welcomed the speakers – the Vice Principal Ms.Anita Thomas, the school counsellor Sr.Regina Xavier.

The vice principal, Ms. Anitha Thomas, briefed the students  about discipline  and bullying.

Physical Bullying: Hurting someone’s body on purpose. Ex-Kicking, slapping, punching, pushing etc.

Verbal Bullying: Hurting someone by saying or writing mean things, Ex-calling names, teasing, threatening, etc.

 Social Bullying: Hurting someone through spreading false news. Ex. Spreading rumours, ruining reputation, etc.

Cyber Bullying: Hurting someone through social media. Ex- hurtful texts, spreading nasty rumours online, etc.

She showed thestudents the two circulars issued by CBSE, one on 9^th March 2015 and the other on 3^rd November 2020, regarding the issues on bullying and the anti-bullying committee which was to be made by the schools, consisting of the principal and 7 other members.

Vice principal ma’am also told the students the importance of respecting elders.

 The session was handed over to the Counsellor, Sr. Regina Xavier, who spoke about healthy relationships.

 Sr. Regina highlighted following points:

• self-care,
• respecting everyone,
• obedience,
• being in good conditions with everyone, etc.

 She also told the students about the advantages of healthy relationships:

1. Good mental and physical health
2. Good academic performances
3. Less behaviour problems
4. Ambitious to achieve you goals
5. Increase your sense of worth.

She also told us about signs of healthy and unhealthy relationship:

Healthy relationship:

• Respect each other
• Trust one another
• Communicate well
• Love yourself
• Be kind to each other
• Enjoy each others company
• Support each others goals

After that, she even educated the students about anger management.

She highlightedabout the problems faced due to anger:

• Headache
• Skin problems
• Depression
• Stroke
• Heart attack
• High blood pressure
• Insomnia, etc.

She also told the students methods to control anger:

• Meditation
• Write a journal
• Talk to a person whom you trust
• Play sports
• Walk in your garden
• Try to find out the reason why you are angry
• Walk away from the conversation

The Principal, Rev. Fr. Robert D’Souza addressed the gathering 

The Principal, Rev.Fr.Robert D’Souza addressed the gathering and mentioned the following points –

• No student should be involved in any kind of fights.
• Students are expected to maintain discipline in the class and avoid disturbance during class hours.
• Students must complete their work in time.
• Students have to help their parents and take up responsibilities.
• Students have to participate in all the activities of the school and follow the ground rules.
• Students must carry books according to the time-table.

The session ended with a thank you note by the MC.
