On 22 December 2016, “Shifting into Higher Gear” a career development programme for students of class 12 was organised. It began at 8:15AM and concluded at 3:00 PM
Mr. Ronald Mendonca ,the Principal Consultant and Career Coach at Smart Solutions, Mangalore, a science graduate and holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing, has served in Pharma marketing with M/S Hoechst India Ltd, now known as AVENTIS for 17 years.
Mr. Ronald Mendonca during his presentation, gave an overview of the career-oriented undergraduate courses in medicine, engineering, general science, arts, accounts, management and many more. He explained the relative job prospects and benefits of most of the courses. He said that there had been a shift from unemployment to unemployability in the recent years and it was very important for students to choose careers that would make them employable. One’s goals, interests, personality, attitudes etc. should be some of the parameters in choosing one’s career.
During the seminar we had discussed careers through science and commerce. We also had discussed entertainment/journalism/mass communications, teaching and education related careers as well the emerging careers.
He spoke about group discussion and brainstorming and how to prepare our minds for entrance tests, choosing a course, a college and how to face stress.
Several questions were asked and students gave their point of view on the topic.
We had two students each from science and from commerce to present their thoughts on the topic given by him. It was an interactive seminar-exploring different aspects and sharing thoughts and experiences.
The seminar overall was a great opportunity for the students to decide their future course of action.
