INDEPENDENCE DAY REPORT 2016

Every citizen of India is well aware that 15th August is the day when India got its independence from British rule to become a free country. The day is celebrated all over in unity with great patriotism. Today Lourdes Central School celebrated India’s 70th Independence Day at the School Grounds at 8:00 am. The anchors for the day – Melisha Mascarenhas and Pavithra of class X welcomed the Chief Guest Retired Flight Lt Mr Venkatesh M Nayak, Manager of LCS Rev. Fr Wilson L Vitus D’Souza, Principal Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza, Vice Principal Mrs Belita Mascarenhas, Assistant Parish Priest Rev. Fr Stany Pinto, Member of Management Committee Dr Adelaide Saldanha, PTEC Vice President Mrs Arati Shetty, escorted by the School Band, Guides, Scouts, Cubs and Bulbuls.

The programme began with a prayer song sung by the School Choir. Senior Secondary Coordinator Ms Roshni Jose welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest hoisted the national flag along with the dignitaries who were escorted by the Head Boy Aman Amertia. Niharika Shetty and Vamshika Shetty of Class X briefed on the importance of Independence Day. The School Choir enhanced the spirit of patriotism by singing a couple of patriotic songs.

The Chief Guest Flight Lt Mr Venkatesh M Nayak currently working at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited as Senior Manager of Power Plant Operations spoke on the occasion and stated that students should respect one another, be disciplined, be selfless in their service and contribute to the nation. He requested the students to contribute to the environment by planting atleast one tree in their home, nearby surrounding or school and nuture it till it grows. He asked them to join Swatch Bharath and give awareness to the people to keep the country clean. He told the students to avoid wasting water, not to complain and urged them to serve the nation by joining the armed forces.

The ‘Cornerstone’ of LCS Manager Rev. Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza addressed the gathering and remembered the people who sacrificed their lives and made the country independent. He requested that each student may light a candle that will brighten the light of many.

Discipline Coordinator Ms Anita Thomas proposed the Vote of Thanks. The programme ended with the distribution of sweets to all the students.
