Annual Sports Day 2017

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”
On Saturday 11th November 2017 Lourdes Central School organised Annual Sports Day to celebrate health and happiness. Amongst the dignitaries on the occasion were the Chief Guest Dr Habib Khan, Associate Professor, Fr Muller’s Medical College, the Guest of Honour Dr Vasudev B Pai, PTEC Vice-President, accompanied by the President of today’s function Rev. Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, Manager Lourdes Central School, the Principal Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza, the Vice Principal Ms Belita Mascarenhas, Mr Stany Vas, Vice President Bejai Pastoral Parishad and Ms Cony Saldanha, Secretary of Bejai Pastoral Parishad, escorted by the Convenor Mr Vishwanath Devadiga.
The inaugural programme began at 8.30 a.m. with the School Choir singing the prayer song ‘Bless this beautiful day’ headed by Mr Ivan Mascarenhas. This was followed by the School Parade headed by the head boy Abner Pinto, the head girl Meghana Kashyap, the house captains and vice captains with their respective houses marching to the beat of the band which intensified the atmosphere positively. The ‘platoons and brigades’ of Lourdites gave a stunning performance through the March Past. The School flag was ceremonially carried by the worthy sportsmen of the School – Prathvi Pai, Pradeep Dilip, Gagan N Shetty and Mohammed Khaleel for the flag raising ceremony. The Chief Guest Dr Habib Khan hoisted the flag. On this joyous occasion Rev. Fr Robert D’Souza delivered the welcome address. The Torch is the symbol of harmony and good will, the flame represents spiritual significance and fair play. The Sports Torch was borne by our athletes Akanksha Pai, Moulya Shetty, Anika Bharatraj and Niranjan who have emerged winners in various events; and the football team players Amaan, Muneer, Asif, Maneeth, Ankush, Nihaal, Aaron, Ayush, Jason, Jayesh, Sankeerth and Anush who are the proud winners of the most coveted Independence Day Football Cup . The Guest of Honour Dr Vasudev B Pai received the torch and declared the sports meet open. To rejuvenate the spirit of true sportsmanship, the Sports Minister Rashmi K P led the oath and recited the pledge. The students gave an impressive spectacle of harmony and discipline through the Mass Drill. It was truly an exhilarating performance. House system song was sung mellifluously.
The Chief Guest Dr Habib Khan addressed the gathering and said that LCS has not only quality teachers but is a power house of sports – be it Basketball , Football or Cricket. He congratulated the staff, students and the winners of the Independence Day Football Cup. He urged the students to play hard, show their sport and stamina in the field, participate at the national level and take a gold medal for India. He thanked the teachers for their value based education.

The President of the function Rev. Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, the sculptor of determination and self confidence gave his message and said that the aim of LCS is to give all-round education, learn to be humble and wished that Sports Day will be a happy day with God’s blessings.

Mr Veerendra Alva, the PT instructor and Convenor of the programme delivered the vote of thanks.
