On account of bringing awareness amongst the students about the ill effects of agricultural processes on the environment and the solutions to curb it and with the sole purpose of educating students about vermicomposting , Lourdes Central School organised a talk on waste management as part of CBSE- SEWA activity , on 23rd January 2020 from 10:30 to 11:30am for the students of class 9, 10 and 11. The event echoed at the rooftop auditorium with erudition bubbling up in the students.
The event started with a devotional prayer song . Ananya.N of class 11 welcomed the guests. The guest of honour were Mr.Ramakrishna Marati, Scientific officer,Pilikula Nisargadhama and Mr.Roshan, the horticulture assistant. The Principal Rev Fr. Robert D’souza was also present.
Mr. Ramakrishna Marati stressed on the importance of plants in our lives. He also addressed the students about vermicomposting; the ways of preparing it, efficiency and its advantages. He also illuminated on the ways of converting dirty trash to valuable cash. They also demonstrated the method of preparing vermicompost in our houses. A few students were also given the chance to get their hands on the ‘African night crawler’; which is a key ingredient of vermicompost.
The programme was engaging and informative. Finally it concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Manasa of class 11.
