International Yoga Day 2023

‘The ground work of all happiness is good health’

International Yoga Day is observed every year on 21st June in order to raise awareness about this ancient practice and to celebrate the physical and spiritual prowess that yoga has brought to the world.

Lourdes Central School organized a Yoga Session for students from Classes 1-12 in the Roof Top. It was a great endeavour from the part of the School Management to create   awareness among students and ignite a passion for fitness.

International Yoga Day was celebrated at Lourdes Central School by the Principal Rev Fr Robert Dsouza, Vice Principals Ms Belita Mascarenhas and Ms Anitha Thomas, staff and students on 21st June with great fervour. The chief guest of the day was Lion Shivaram Rai. The programme started off with a Universal Prayer. The dignitaries were welcomed by Dharthi of Class 8D and introduced the chief guest Lion Shivaram Rai which was followed by Inauguration; by lighting the lamp. The chief guest was honoured with memento, a shawl and a bouquet.

Fr Principal in his message encouraged children to practice yoga, and to lead healthy and happy life. Sharanya of Class 8D lead the pledge given by Ministry of Ayush on account of International Day of Yogo. The Chief Guest, who is a retired Asst. General Manager of Vijaya Bank, is now a Yoga practitioner after completing his diploma in advanced yoga at Tamil Sangam Yoga School, Bangalore and his PG in Yogic science and Yoga therapy. Since 2017 he has been conducting yoga classes at Lion Seva Mandir of Lions Club, Mangalore. In his speech he said that Yoga helps us all to experience the truth by realizing the true nature of our self and universe.  It helps and encourages every human being to relax and reduce stress. Lion Shivaram Rai, seeing the stressful life of all human beings going through, decided to conduct yoga classes to all to help the society be stronger and live a stress-free life. 

He demonstrated the different asanas and pranayama asanas like Tadasana, Trikonasana, Dhanurasana, Kapalbhati which was taught along with their right form and its importance. These asanas really help students to control food habits and health disorders, control their mind and emotional stability.

All students were enthusiastic to learn more about Yoga asanas. The Programme was beautifully compered by Eva Lisa Lobo of Class 8D under the guidance of Ms Padmashree Bhat.
